The Tripura government on 16 March 2026 announced a 5 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for state employees and pensioners. The revised rates will apply from 1 April 2026.
The hike covers 1,83,582 people in all. According to a Finance Department official, this includes 1,02,563 government employees and 81,019 pensioners. The extra burden on the state is estimated at about Rs 500 crore a year.
Chief Minister Manik Saha made the announcement on the second day of the Budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, shortly after Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented the Budget for 2026-27.
Opposition members objected to the way the hike was announced. Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said it should have been part of the Finance Minister's budget proposals instead of a separate statement by the Chief Minister. CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhury, the Leader of the Opposition, asked the government about pending DA and DR arrears. The Budget session was scheduled to run until 25 March.
