A new cultural resource centre for the indigenous tribes of Nagaland was inaugurated in Kohima on 7 May 2026. The Nagaland Indigenous Tribes Cultural Resource Centre aims to preserve, record and promote the traditions of the state's tribal communities.

All 16 officially recognised tribes of Nagaland have their own spaces in the centre to display their heritage. The facility is meant to work as a hub for exhibitions, research, learning, documentation and cultural exchange, and to build unity among the tribes.

Funding and purpose

Officials said the project cost Rs 12.83 crore. It has been funded jointly by the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources and the Nagaland government.

Speakers at the event, including K Konngam Konyak and Bodeno S Colo, said the centre goes beyond simply storing the past. They described it as a place to keep cultural practices alive and pass them on to younger people. Officials hope it will grow into a major knowledge centre where tradition and new ideas can sit side by side.
