Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the first disbursement of Orunodoi 3.0 for the 2026-27 financial year on 1 August 2026. The money was sent straight to the bank accounts of more than 37 lakh women beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer.
Under the scheme, each eligible woman receives Rs 1,250 a month from the state government. The main event was held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, and similar programmes were organised at more than 3,500 locations across the state. The Chief Minister described Orunodoi as the flagship social welfare scheme of the state.
Families hit by the recent floods received extra support. Beneficiaries in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat and Jorhat districts were given Rs 2,500 each as a flood relief measure, on top of the regular payment.
The government is also bringing in an Aadhaar-linked payment system for the scheme. Officials say the change will remove duplicate entries and make sure that the money goes only to genuine beneficiaries, directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
