Nagaland now has its first five-star hotel. The Polo Hotel in Kohima was inaugurated by Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on the evening of Saturday, 24 October 2026.
The opening comes ahead of the Hornbill Festival 2026, which begins on 1 December. The annual festival is the state's biggest tourism event and draws visitors from across India and abroad to Kohima every winter.
Speaking at the event, the Governor congratulated the management of Polo Hotels Group. He described the hotel as an investment in the future of the region that will open up new livelihood opportunities for local people.
The report also described the hotel as a promise to welcome guests with warmth and professional service. It noted that Nagaland, with its cultural traditions, natural beauty and festivals, has much to offer travellers. With the Polo Hotel, the state now has a property in the five-star category for the first time, just as the busiest stretch of its tourism calendar approaches.
