Sikkim's first Adventure Tourism Festival opened on 1 November 2026 at Limkhimatar in Namchi district. The week-long event, organised by the state Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, runs until 7 November.
Sanjit Kharel, the MLA for Namthang-Rateypani, inaugurated the festival. On the opening day, a seven-member bungee jumping team was flagged off to Nepal for training. The Kursong Kurmit Trail in Dzongu was also launched to promote community-based tourism.
Another opening-day highlight was the Gnathang Valley Vibrant Village Marathon, held in a high-altitude Himalayan setting. Over the week, visitors can try paragliding, trekking, mountain biking, river rafting and camping. Participants can register online or offline.
The festival is meant to show Sikkim's potential for adventure tourism and to develop new destinations beyond the popular hill stations. It also aims to support local tour operators and encourage sustainable tourism. Before the event, officials carried out a two-day survey of possible sites in Pakyong, Soreng and Namchi districts to check the safety of the planned activities.
