Assam registered 9,002 Durga Puja pandals across the state in 2026, the highest number so far. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the figure in a post on X during the festive season in October and called it the state's highest ever count.

The new total is 481 more than the 8,521 pandals recorded in 2025, a rise of a little under 6 per cent in a year. In 2024, the state had 8,381 pandals, which means the number has grown by 621 over two years.

The Chief Minister linked the rise to the climate of peace, trust and harmony in the state. He thanked puja committees and volunteers for organising the celebrations. He also thanked police and other public personnel for their work during the festival.

Durga Puja is among the most widely celebrated festivals in Assam, with community committees setting up pandals in cities, towns and villages. The latest figures show that the number of such committees has gone up for a second year in a row.
