Manas National Park in Assam has gone three years in a row without a single case of rhino or tiger poaching. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news in a post on X on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.
The Chief Minister called it an important achievement for conservation. He said the park had moved past the time when poaching often made news, and that zero poaching had now become normal for Manas. He gave credit to the steady efforts of the state government to protect wildlife and preserve the variety of animal life in the park.
Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the past, the park faced poaching as well as disturbances linked to insurgency in the region.
In recent years, conservation work in the park has focused on surveillance, better protection infrastructure and the participation of local communities. The report did not give poaching figures for earlier years or the exact dates of the three-year period, but the announcement marks a clear change from the park's difficult past.
