Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath of office as Chief Minister of Assam on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, beginning his second consecutive term. The ceremony was held at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati.

Chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from several NDA-ruled states were also present. The alliance named Ranjeet Kumar Dass as its candidate for Speaker of the new Assembly.
